When Antibiotics Are Prescribed

If imaging shows infection has spread to surrounding bone or tissues, or if a patient is immunocompromised or has certain cardiac conditions, antibiotics are prescribed as a precaution. Routine, uncomplicated root canals in healthy patients typically do not require them.

Evidence-Based Prescribing
