Dr. Pedram Bohluli, DDS, MS, PhD
Dr. Pedram Bohluli is an endodontist at Omega Dental Specialists whose path to dentistry runs through engineering. He holds both a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, and received an Excellence in Biomedical Engineering Award in 2005. He went on to earn his certificate in endodontics from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in 2007.
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry devoted to the inside of the tooth: the pulp, the nerve, and the root canal system. At Omega, Dr. Bohluli performs root canal treatments, retreatment of root canals that have become reinfected or have not healed properly, and the related procedures that relieve tooth pain while keeping the natural tooth in place. When deep decay, a crack, or an aging restoration reaches the nerve, a root canal is often what makes the difference between saving a tooth and losing it. It is detailed, technical work carried out in a very small space, a fitting match for a doctor trained in both engineering and clinical dentistry.
Dr. Bohluli works with referring dentists across Houston as well as with Omega's own patients. When a dentist sends a patient for a root canal or a retreatment, he treats the tooth, sends a written report with his findings and what was done, and returns the patient to their own dentist for the final crown and their ongoing care. If a tooth truly cannot be saved, he says so plainly and lays out the options, so the referring dentist and the patient can decide the next step together.
