How to Manage Pain After Implants
Mild to moderate soreness after implant placement is completely normal. Understanding what to expect - and how to manage it - helps patients recover comfortably and confidently.
The First 72 Hours
Take prescribed or recommended pain relief proactively - before the local anesthetic wears off. Ibuprofen reduces inflammation as well as pain. Alternating ibuprofen and paracetamol every 3 hours provides effective around-the-clock coverage. Apply ice packs: 20 minutes on, 20 off.
Days 3-7
Swelling peaks at 48-72 hours then gradually reduces. Transition from liquid and soft foods to a soft regular diet as comfort allows. Most patients are surprised how manageable recovery is compared to their expectations. Keep activity light for the first week.
